Here I will be blogging about the intersection of design, technology, and education. I teach high school classes with various titles like "Engineering & Design" and "Robotics", however I treat everything from an interdisciplinary approach I'd instead call "creative problem-solving through design and technology".
I think designing solutions to real-world problems can be fun, can be a great educational format, and can lead to interesting, viable career options. Consumer gadgets, bicycles, houses, smartphone apps, running shoes...they were all designed by a particular person(s), they all solve a particular need, they all made certain compromises and could probably be improved the next go-around.
I hope for this not just to be my reflective thoughts, but a place to link to and react to other awesome design/technology/education stuff on the internet. So with that in mind: here's a link to an Instragram feed of a design/technology teacher at a different large public high school, doing great stuff with his kids: https://instagram.com/penguinmanufacturing/
